Popularized in 1855 when the Society of Arts awarded its prize to Robert Field - was widely copied by others. Stands 15" high with an attractive claw footed base. It has a rack and pinion coarse focus, and a fine focus control knob on the barrel that moves a telescoping triangular cross-section extension of the upper limb - moves side to side, behind the nosepiece. Under the square stage is a bull’s eye condenser lens mounted on its own stand. A substage concave mirror has a artistic design around the periphery and slides up and down the post. All mechanical controls work perfectly. The microscope comes with a single eyepiece and objective lens that yield approximately 100x magnification. The microscope accepts the standard Society thread lens. The microscope finish is lacquered brass. This microscope is in excellent condition except for some minor scratches on the left side pinion and patina which is excepted for an approx. 150 year work of art! Makes a great showpiece for home or in doctors office.
